Company C
2nd Battalion 5th Cavalry
Morning Reports
Morning Reports were the principle personnel report of a company. They did not contain any operational data, nor are they a "roster". They were reports of "exception", meaning an entry was made only when something changed. As examples, a Morning Report would list when a man was assigned to C 2/5 Cav, was promoted, went on R&R, or was wounded. It did not list the names of the members on each day's report.
Morning Reports contain sensitive data, such as Army serial numbers and Social Security numbers. For that reason, the National Personnel Records Center at St. Louis usually blacks out such information. In those instances where the sensitive information was not blacked out, I will not release copies to the public. Also, Morning Reports were archived on microfiche, and the quality of some copies is extremely poor. I often use a magnifying glass to read words.
